First steps.

My first steps in tango, at the Krokstrand festival july 2010, were a surprise for me. Because I am not such a dancer, never have been. Sure, I like to move on music, but I've  always found it difficult to move after patterns that someone else had made for me. Maybe I was completely wrong all the time, but I never enjoyed salsa, let alone other 'ballroom' stuff. I lost counting and so on. Well, anyway.

On the Krokstrand festival were teachers from World Dance company who not only teached the very basics of tango to complete beginners, but did that in such a way that the 'spark' kept with me untill september, when I came to the full beginners course.

One thing triggered me in particulair. They made it clear to me that Tango is about improvisation. I like that. Now, I'm not talking about freedom here, I think that total freedom leads nowhere. One has to know borders to gain freedom. As far as I understood then (july 2010) there are some rules in tango, there are steps and movements one has to master, but in the dance itself one chooses freely.
